Schedule surgeries efficiently across physicians and hospital departments to minimize patient wait times

Surgery Scheduler

Schedules patients for surgery and completes facility paperwork. Obtains necessary scheduling, demographic, insurance, and clinical information to schedule, cancel, or reschedule events with minimal call transfers or callbacks. Schedules surgeries with physicians and physician office staff using the method designated by the facility. Calls designated departments with information for add-on cases if patients are not yet admitted to the hospital and prepares and sends reservations for each case scheduled within established timeframes. Responds to multiple inquiries from telephone, intercom, and direct communication regarding scheduling of surgery and the main operating room suite. Prepares the advance surgical schedule, scrutinizes tentative schedules, and contacts Team Leader, Charge Nurse, Admissions, surgeons, etc., reviewing other information that affects administration of the schedule. Maintains hospital schedules through various methods such as calls, faxes, etc. Assists with orientation of staff members as needed. Other duties as assigned. Consistently maintains and improves skills such as telephone etiquette, typing accuracy/speed, and communications.

• Ability to communicate appropriately and effectively with patients and their family, hospital staff, nurses, physicians, and other health care professionals [Required] • Knowledge of commonly used concepts, practices, and procedures in the health care industry [Required] • Must be able to read, write and speak conversational English [Required] • Proficient computer skills and knowledge of Microsoft Office [Required] • Ability to document accurately and concisely [Required]

Education: • High School Grad or Equiv [Required]

Work Experience: •3+ years in a healthcare setting [Required] • 1+ year of technical experience [Preferred] •1+ Electronic Health Record (EHR) scheduling experience [Preferred]
