ECU Work+ Cohort
Join the ECU Work+ Cohort for an immersive four-year work experience tailored to your field of study. This program builds skills each semester, enhancing your marketability upon graduation with mentorship support. The first two years focus on establishing a foundation in customer service, transitioning into hands-on experience within your specific field thereafter.
Year 1 and 2 Role Responsibilities:
- Administrative support: Complete paperwork, file records, answer calls, operate office equipment, maintain logs, and adhere to protocols.
- Customer Service: Greet and assist students, staff, and guests; connect them with campus resources.
- Cash Handling: Manage transactions and follow payment security procedures.
- Security: Ensure patron safety at events and enforce facility policies.
- Team Member: Attend training and maintain positive communication with staff.
- University Representative: Model professionalism and promote a positive image of ECU on social media.
- Job Shadowing and Mentorship: Attend trainings and seminars to learn essential skills on self-reflection on being a mentee, and developing skills to become a mentor.
Gain competencies in: Effective Communication, Accountability, Professionalism, Financial Management, Problem Solving and Critical Thinking Skills, Teamwork, Adaptability.
This position combines work responsibilities with dedicated time for professional skill development, aligning with career readiness competencies sought by employers.
Employment in this position is funded exclusively from departmental financial resources and so continued employment is dependent upon the continued available funding from the department and the Work+ program. Additionally, employment is contingent on satisfactory performance and conduct.
Eligibility for Employment: Final candidates are subject to criminal & sex offender background checks. Some vacancies also require credit or motor vehicle checks. ECU participates in E-Verify. Federal law requires all employers to verify the identity and employment eligibility of all persons hired to work in the United States. If highest degree earned is from an institution outside of the U.S. and its territories, final candidates are required to have their degree validated as equivalent to the degree conferred by a regionally accredited college or university in the U.S.
Preferred (Majors, Experience, GPA, etc.) – All intended majors are welcome.
Eligible students must be classified as first year students. Most positions at East Carolina University require employees to live and work in North Carolina after hire. Candidates should be prepared to relocate within a reasonable, agreed-upon time after an offer of employment has been made and accepted to meet this requirement.
