Minimum Requirements

  • Must be 16 years of age or older at time of hire.
  • High school graduation or GED preferred.
  • Must possess a current Lifeguard Certification (including Deep Water) from a nationally recognized organization, i.e. American Red Cross, Ellis & Associates, YMCA of USA, or equivalent.
  • Must successfully complete physical testing to include a demonstration of skills and abilities.
  • Must successfully complete Preventing Disease Transmission and Oxygen Administration training within 30 days of employment.
  • This position is safety sensitive and is subject to testing for alcohol and controlled substances in accordance with the City's current substance abuse policy.
  • Must successfully pass a background check related to this position prior to any offer of employment or promotion (18 and older).

Additional Requirements

  • Requires effective communication with internal and external customers.
  • Must possess good eyesight and hearing.
  • Requires shift work to include weekends and holidays.
  • May require working beyond a standard 40-hour work week.
  • The incumbent may be considered "essential personnel" during City emergency situations or at the direction of the City Manager which may include long hours and unusual schedules.

Patrol the beach and supervise swimmers to enforce safety rules, Respond to emergencies with appropriate lifeguard techniques, Monitor water conditions and swimmer behavior to prevent hazards, Assist with safety trainings and certifications for staff, Coordinate with city emergency services during incidents
