Law Enforcement Officer III (8937)

Job Title

This position will serve within the MDHS Office of Inspector General's Investigations Division.

The individual will be responsible for reviewing and investigating reported incidents of welfare fraud. They will collaborate with partnering law enforcement agencies such as USDA OIG, the Attorney General's Office, District Attorney offices, HHS OIG, and others. Duties also include conducting investigations related to welfare fraud, internal affairs matters, government-assisted grants, and incidents occurring at the Oakley Youth Development Center and the Williams School.

What you'll need to be successful:

• Ability to work independently, manage multiple cases, and meet deadlines in a fast-paced environment.
• Proficiency with investigative software tools, case-management systems, and Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, Outlook).
• Strong report-writing skills, including the ability to prepare investigative summaries and case documentation for administrative action or prosecution.
• Ability to gather, analyze, and interpret data from multiple sources to identify patterns, discrepancies, or indicators of fraud.
• Familiarity with chain-of-custody procedures, evidence handling, and documentation standards.
• Ability to maintain confidentiality and follow strict ethical and professional standards.
• Willingness to travel for field investigations, interviews, and site visits.

Preferred qualifications:

• Typically requires possession of a State of Mississippi Law Enforcement Professional Certification, and 2-4 years of experience in law enforcement.
• Must hold a State of Mississippi Law Enforcement Professional Certification.
• Experience conducting interviews, collecting statements, and documenting findings in a clear, factual, and organized manner.
• Valid driver's license.
