Install and certify copper and fiber cabling in a hyperscale data center environment
Data Center Structured Cabling Technician
The Data Center Structured Cabling Technician is responsible for installing, terminating, testing, and maintaining copper and fiber optic structured cabling systems within mission-critical hyperscale data center environments. This role ensures all installations comply with BICSI, ANSI/TIA, customer specifications, and quality standards while supporting the deployment of network infrastructure.
Responsibilities:
- Install Cat6, Cat6A, and fiber optic cabling systems.
- Pull, route, dress, and secure copper and fiber cabling.
- Install ladder rack, basket tray, J-hooks, and cable support systems.
- Terminate copper and fiber patch panels.
- Install and label patch panels, cabinets, cable managers, and work area outlets.
- Test and certify copper cabling using Fluke testing equipment.
- Assist with fiber testing and certification.
- Read and interpret blueprints, cable schedules, and rack elevations.
- Maintain proper cable routing, bend radius, and labeling standards.
- Troubleshoot cabling issues and perform repairs as required.
- Complete project documentation and redline drawings.
- Follow OSHA, BICSI, and site-specific safety procedures.
Qualifications:
Minimum Qualifications:
- 2–5 years of structured cabling experience.
- Experience with Cat6/Cat6A and fiber optic installations.
- Ability to read construction drawings.
- Familiarity with Fluke testing equipment.
- Strong attention to detail.
Preferred Qualifications:
- BICSI Installer 1 or Installer 2
- OSHA 10 or OSHA 30
- Experience in hyperscale data centers
- Manufacturer certifications (Panduit, CommScope, Corning, Leviton)
