Maintain and deploy Electronics Detection Canine statewide, coordinating with partner agencies.
Electronics Detection Canine Handler
This is a SCDPPPS internal posting only. Two positions available with a special assignment pay of $6875 applied to anyone selected. The Electronics Detection Canine (EDC) Handler is responsible for daily training and care of the assigned canine. Directs canine in attempts to detect unlawful electronic devices or storage media in violation of SCDPPPS Standard Sex Offender Conditions. Assists other Federal, State, and Local Agencies with lawful searches. Provides guidance and direction to Sex Offender Agents.
Minimum and additional requirements include a bachelor's degree with at least 15 semester hours in social or behavioral science courses and experience in probation and parole work. An associate's degree and two years of military or certified law enforcement experience may be substituted; or a high school diploma and four years of military or certified law enforcement experience may be substituted.
Preferred qualifications include minimum of one year of SCDPPPS Agent experience preferred. Agent must have a strong desire to work with an assigned canine and a willingness to commit to the EDC position for a minimum of five years. Preferably prior canine handling experience (K-9). Knowledge of modern law enforcement techniques and procedures. C-1 Certification by the Law Enforcement Training Council in accordance with ยง 23-23-40 of the Code of Laws of South Carolina 1976.
This is an entirely on-site, in-office position. Necessary special requirements include certification by the Law Enforcement Training Council in accordance with 23-23-40 of the Code of Laws of South Carolina 1976.
