Patient Services Coordinator II

The Patient Services Coordinator II provides administrative support to health care providers in a high-volume ambulatory setting. This role functions as the primary interface between the patient and providers within an outpatient practice. There is an emphasis on the ability to organize priorities, complete tasks, and manage confidential patient information. Enhancing the quality of service to patients is a key focus.

Principal Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Performs all duties that are the responsibility of a Patient Service Coordinator I.
  • Handles all check-in and check-out functions according to established standards.
  • Provides support and information to providers to address and manage complex administrative patient issues.
  • Manages the daily Epic In Basket with respect to patient scheduling and staff messages.
  • Understands managed care and other third-party insurer processes.
  • Functions as a resource for patients regarding managed care plans, insurance, and referral issues.
  • Performs electronic insurance verification and obtains prior authorizations for procedures as needed.
  • Understands financial services and self-pay resources, providing information to patients as needed.
  • Triages and manages more complex telephone calls, utilizing courteous customer service skills.
  • Maintains confidentiality and privacy in accordance with guidelines.
  • Performs revenue enhancement activities including registration verification and co-payment collection.
  • Schedules patient appointments and coordinates diagnostic testing.
  • Tracks referral appointments and visits.
  • Provides cross coverage for staff members during absences and variations in workflow.
  • Assists with training and orientation of new staff where applicable.
  • Performs tasks that facilitate the flow of patients through the practice and enhance service quality.
  • Carries out photocopying, faxing, and filing as required.
  • Completes special projects as requested.
  • Performs other duties as assigned.
