Job Description

You will head the inspection unit (e.g. shift of submarine overhaul work or receipt inspection group).

You will be responsible for the overall production, safety and efficiency of the subordinate members of the working unit.

You will assure that personnel are sufficiently trained in the processes and responsibilities of nuclear quality control to certify that specifications are adhered to.

You will plan the units work on a one to two week basis and sequences the action events as they occur.

You will identify and resolve problems as they arise.

You will define quality standards and modify plans, assignments or methods as necessary.

You will be responsible for carrying out EEO policies and communicating support of these policies to subordinates.

You will participate in LEAN initiatives, building collaborative work environments, or fiscal initiatives.

Must be a US Citizen.

Must be determined suitable for federal employment.

Must participate in the direct deposit pay program.

You will be required to obtain and maintain an interim and/or final security clearance prior to entrance on duty. Failure to obtain and maintain the required level of clearance may result in the withdrawal of a job offer or removal.

This position may require travel from normal duty station to CONUS and OCONUS and may include remote or isolated sites. You must be able to travel on military and commercial aircraft for extended periods of time.

Supervisors in the executive branch have a heightened personal responsibility for advancing government ethics. You will be required to review the 14 General Principles of Ethical Conduct at 5 CFR 2635.101.

You will be required to wear personal protective equipment such as helmets, gloves, coveralls, glasses, goggles, respirators and safety shoes continuously for the duration of the work shift.

The employee will be required to meet the physical and training requirements to become a qualified radiation worker.

Although a specific length of time and experience is not required for most trade and labor occupations, you must show through experience and training that you possess the quality level of knowledge and skill necessary to perform the duties of the position at the level for which you are applying. Qualification requirements emphasis is on quality of experience, not necessarily the length of time. Your qualifications will be evaluated on the basis of your level of knowledge, skills, abilities and/or competencies in the job elements and screen out listed below. Ability to display knowledge and skills of a nuclear mechanical inspector while utilizing the principles and procedures involved as a nuclear mechanical inspector, determining sequence, priorities and deadlines of scheduled assignments; estimating material, equipment and manpower needs; developing and implementing work and safety procedures; AND executing administrative functions such as scheduling and approving leave, issuing performance appraisals, deciding conduct related matters, and supporting Equal Employment Opportunity principles and practices. I work with a high degree of independence.

Ability to explain technical subjects and be familiar with mechanical systems associated with Naval Nuclear Reactor Plants, determining priorities or deadlines of assignments; estimating material, equipment and manpower needs; observing tasks in progress; giving advice, or instruction to employees. Providing administrative functions such as scheduling or approving leave; or providing evaluation of work performance of subordinates to supervisor; or supporting Equal Employment Opportunity principles and practices. I work on my own initiative under general supervision subject to occasional inspection.

Ability to lead, mentor and train subordinate inspectors in a positive and professional manner, setting the work-pace; passing on instructions received from supervisors; assigning tasks to be performed; assuring that work assignments are carried out; providing advice or instruction to employees on work or administrative matters; or supporting Equal Employment Opportunity principles and practices.

Ability to possess the principles and procedures involved in nuclear reactor plant inspection work and must have prior experience as a nuclear mechanical inspector.
