Description
JOB SUMMARY
The Surgery Scheduler is responsible for entering all surgical procedures into the medical software program, communicating equipment, staffing and ancillary needs to the Director of Nursing, screening non-approved procedures or procedures not indicated on a surgeon's delineation of privileges list. The Scheduler will be cross-trained in other functions of the business office and reports directly to the Business Office Manager.
Key Job Responsibilities
Essential Function
Schedules all outpatient surgeries and procedures as requested by the attending physician or the attending physician's office staff.
Coordinates efforts with the Director of Nursing and/or OR Charge Nurse to prevent equipment and staffing conflicts and schedules ancillary services relative to a procedure(s).
Prepares and distributes the daily surgery schedule to the Director of Nursing, OR Charge Nurse, Pre-Op and PACU Charge Nurse, Medical Director, Administrator and the Business Office Manager.
Assists with registration forms, patient ID tags, and patient chart preparation for next day cases.
Assists with ensuring the completeness and accuracy of information in the medical chart prior to the admission and compiles unsigned transcribed dictation.
Captures complete and accurate patient clinical, demographic and insurance information.
Communicates to the Director of Nursing and Patient Accounts Representative (responsible for benefits verification) same day and next day add-on cases, scheduling conflicts, and any patient problems.
Maintains positive communication with Medical Staff members and their office personnel.
Tracks cancellations and monitors and maintains block time
Cross-trains in some functions of the Admitting Clerk/Receptionist, specifically, admitting patients and answering the telephone.
Manages daily the medical records by authorizing access, maintaining filing and authorizing the release of medical records according to the Surgery Center's Medical Records Policies and Procedures. Medical Records activity shall be under the direction of the Business Office Manager.

Qualifications
Education

Completion of a clerical training or administrative support program – Preferred
